I quite enjoyed this book. It's a little bit Oz, a little bit Alice in Wonderland, but very original in it's take on the whole this world girl finding herself in fairyland. Much darker than Oz. The wordplay is clever and enjoyable, and in that sense, has a bit of the Alice in Wonderland feel to it. The author does a great job of creating an explanation for why some people find fairyland accidently, some are stolen, and some seek it. She also creates a great sense of fun at the beginning and then adventure and drama towards the end. The characters are memorable - especially Gleam, the Wyverary and the golem (not to mention September, Saturday and the Marquess). There are references that only adults may catch to Customs and such, but that is the way with the best Children's stories. There's definitely room for a sequel, and I am very much looking forward to the next stories.
