i can see why this book won awards, but like a lot of award winners, it was kind of overly long. the subject matter was interesting: middlesex immigrant child comes of age in the good old usa. if you don't want to read a book that touches on incest or hermaphrodites, read something else. it is a well-written, open-minded experience. there's a good history lesson, too, and i traveled to the sea of marmara and saw some of the sights, so that was nifty.
