When I started this book, I was dating a Mormon. By the time I ended this book, we had broken up. Though Ostling presents a well-balanced, meticulously researched overview of Mormonism and dispels some of the myths about Mormonism (for example, polygamy), I still found this a tough read. As someone raised without religion, who if anything gravitates towards Buddhism and Krishnamurti, there were parts of the book--on censorship and authority, on blacks, on women--that were hard to stomach, much less believe.

I am still delving into the Collected Mr. Wheelwright and what I have read just amazes me. His verse ranges from free to formal; yet it is somehow unlike any other poet I've read, in both subject matter and style. He is idiosyncratic without being distracting and manages to be authoratative-- even didactic-- without losing the sympathy of the reader. Wonderful-- A+

I enjoyed the book. I think it will be a very helpful resource for my training. I didn't agree with everything said in the book, especially in the gear/gadgets section. In the later section of the book, the tone seemed to change. While I think the authors' love of running came through the entire time. The latter half of the book, the tone changed slightly and I got the impression they were talking more to people who weren't starting out from ground zero but to those who were already running.
